OK, tired of me yet? Now I have another problem relative to data sources and mail merges. I want to be able to use one file as all source data for a particular task, but I want that data source to contain different data on any given day.

Basically, I have a relational database in Filemaker that I use to create CSV export files of people I want to contact (usu. by letter). I use the same file type, path and file name, allowing FMP to overwrite the last file for a new export. This automates the process of setting up my mail merge data because I can simply connect all merge documents to this one file, then open, refresh and print. Note that I have complex query routines for determining who get's what mailing that are easily done in Filemaker but not in OO's ODBC system so I can't use that (I've tried). Plus the database is quite large and cumbersome to do through ODBC.

If I create a merge document and use the single data source file for that document, I can't overwrite the data source file with new data. Now, since it's in use by a merge document, I understand why it shouldn't be able to be overwritten - the file is in use. But even when I close OO, I can't overwrite the file - it's as if the file is still in use. But if I end the soffice.bin/soffice.exe process using the task manager, I can then overwrite the file.

Seems to me OO should let go of any files it has grabbed for memory when it quits, but at some level that is not happening. Is this by design, and if so, why. Otherwise, I assume this is a bug?

I opened an issue against this problem... I thought that it had been fixed, but I was wrong...

Thanks, I'm interested in a fix b/c this is a fairly important task for me. I should have looked through the issues before posting.

Then be certain to add a note to the issue stating that you also have problems with this. Really, this can help.
