Personally I like auto caps on as a default -- I am sure it is a sign
of advancing age, but it's one less thing to remember.
Any feature in the program has to either be on by default, off by
default or have the user make a selection during install (take a look
at the number of OO.o ate MS-Office posts to see the results asking a
question during install!) -- with a feature that is a user
preference (like Auto-Caps) my guess would be, that any choice made
by the developers will be the wrong one for a good percentage of the
users. As long a there is an option (tools -->Auto correct -->
Options) to turn it off, I am not sure what else could be done.
I can not duplicate your problem with concatenate, the only time I
came close was when I accidently typed a space in my sample text!
What version of Open Office are you running and what OS is on your
computer?
Why does everyone who dislikes a feature of OO.o compare it to
Microsoft, like MS is awful, while there may be an entire discussion
to be had on Microsoft (not here!), they write some very good
software and are really quite responsive to customer requests (yes I
know they charge for it, but they are in business to make money).
IF MS is so bad why not install linux on your PC!
Thanks
Andy

A couple of annoying habits of the OO2 spreadsheet in default
configuration:
1) This also happened in previous version - auto-capitalisation of
first letter of cell - where can I turn this off? (I have looked a
few times and failed to find anything).
2) This seems a new 'feature' - CONCATENATE auto-inserts a space
between strings
- how annoying is that! Again I can't find a way to turn it off.
Both these features are patronising Micro$oft style 'we know what
you really want' type configurations. I don't want it that way for
one! Give it to us plain and let us configure auto-editing if we
want it!
