I cannot really reproduce your problem so bad. On my Windows 2000
machine it takes a little longer to save if I manipulate text that
contains a hyperlink or add a new one. But sometimes even if I write
somewhere else some other text. However it does not seem always to
take longer (but only 2-3 seconds) on each save.
You can try to disable URL recognition under Tools->Auto
correction->Options. I tried with a document without any hyperlink
and there save operations are definitely faster. So you must be
right, that there is some problem with hyperlinks. I turned that off
now.
Another probably relevant options are at
Tools->Options->Load/Save->Common->Save URLs relatively (sorry if
bad translation - I am on German OO at the moment).
If you are on Windows - what can be checked in addition to the
OpenOffice options (because slows down file access):
- Look for printers that are currently not connected to your PC.
- Look in network neighbourhood for cached shares
that are not reachable any more/currently.
- Look at the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU
under the appropriate file extension.
These things apply especially when on a laptop/notebook.
There is really a lot of shit written to the registry regarding MRU
(most recently used <something>). From time to time it is good to
clean-up a little and this improves the system speed (one reason why
new installed Windows PC is a lot faster than after a while of
working with it - and no further comment on this). You can search
the registry for MRU and you find a lot. But be careful - not every
thing can be deleted without doing harm to your system.
Further go to <user profile folder>\Recent - I do clean up this on
every system reboot.
HTH.
