Preview pane ? Oh, you use MS outlook or perhaps evolution. Far too slow,
try a power MUA, something like mutt.

That is it: interleave the replies with the relevant bits of the message and
remove the rest of the stuff.

No: you should leave enough bits so that other can understand with as little
work as possible what you are trying to say.

Remember: 30 seconds work by you can save thousands of others a few seconds 
each;
that is the gain. People who thoughtlessly top post are either lazy, ill 
informed
or think that their time is more valuable than that of many others.
