I've been playing around with some data that I have in a text document. It is about 40 pages long. If I select the entire document I am not able to set the tabs. I began experimenting and found that I am able to select about half of the document before I lose access to changes on the tab ruler. The tabs just disappear and I can't set any. Is this a bug, a limitation, or am I doing something wrong?
You can overcome this problem by setting the tabs in the paragraph styles.

Thank you. That works. It that a known problem?
If you want to know the reason for the behavior, you probably need to ask on the dev mailing list. Off hand, I would guess that if you checked, you probably have something in particular around the spot where you lose the ability that triggers the behavior. For example, while writing macros, if I select a section of text, I can set properties. If I a particular property contains different values in the selected area, then I can not set the property. More concretely, if I have the following text:

hello you big person

If I select all of the text in a macro, I probably can not set the font weight to be bold for the entire section at once. I need to break up the selection. I do not remember which properties exhibit this behavior.

Also, in your selection, do you include any sections, frames, tables, etc.... This may also cause a problem from a tabs perspective.
