This "problem" goes back to an earlier installation on my computer. Since then I've installed afresh (for other reasons), deleting traces of any prior installation. After filing an issue, I received the same response as yours and, in disbelief, tried a simple formula, with the result, yes, the range name was recognised across sheets in the document.
