Hi Paul,
You can open tab delimited files in calc by using 'file / open' and
choosing CSV as the file type. After choosing the file, you'll get a
dialogue asking you to specify the delimiter.

SAP creates this type of files which Excel has no issue opening, but OO
open them in Writer instead of Calc.
