um. unless you are using pre-2.0 dev build, and have filled user
info, document view should be restored if you are the last editor of
the file.
issuezilla is slow as hell currently, i am not able to find the
issue that had most of the history regarding war on this feature :)
ok, i found it.
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=43146
from the size and content of discussion you can see that we had a
bumpy road :)
also, browsing 'duplicate tree' (that is, going through all issues
marked as dupes, and their dupes, and...) should give a very nice
view on how long it took to get some common view on the problem ;)
and we had lengthy mailing list discussions on the same subject, too.
though reading all of them might be too much.

Okay, we have part of the problem solved. I had been ignoring the
User Data since it didn't seem to have any relevance to my life. Of
course, in computers, there's always some little thing like that that
turns around and bites you in the behind.
However, as I responded to Uwe, I still don't know how to use the
Shift F5 thing
Thanks again,

I believe what you are looking for is in Tools | Options |
OpenOffice.org | View. Check that Restore "Editing view" is checked.
If you edit a file, save it, close the file and reopen it, it should
open again at the same place where the cursor was when you closed the file.
