Having worked through and resolved a similar problem today, allow me to make
a
comment.

The XML file is corrupted. Upgrading OOo to 2.0.1 is good suggestion but it
will probably still not be able to read the  XML file.

Cyrille Moureaux was kind enough to give this advice earlier...

If (like me) you're on XP, double clicking on the xml file will get MS to
parse/display it and the error message is a bit more helpful than OOo Calc.
