While I have not found any problems with NeoOffice/J-1.2 (beta) in my limited use of it so far, I would be hesitant to recommend it to others for normal use. It is still a beta at this point. Use at your own risk.
The "beta" part is not really about NeoOffice the application, since NeoOffice is 99% OpenOffice.org 1.1.5. The "beta" part is related to the glitches that can exist related to the linking with the OSX environment. You may have noticed that all the bugs fixed in NO are mostly related to display issues, printing issues etc, and that all the "core" bugs are sent back to the OpenOffice.org bug tracking system.
Considering that OOo 1.1.5 is stable, it is fair to consider the "productive" side of NO 1.2 just as stable. Only the "bells and whistles" still have a few glitches, but that really is limited to that.
Also don't forget that Patrick Luby (the NO main developer) is the person who started porting OOo on OSX while he was working for SUN. So he really knows what he is doing :)
I do live in "latin-based" environment so X-11 on the Mac has not been an issue for me. Your point is well taken. I hope that Apple will address the issue.
This is not an Apple issue. It is an X11 issue. I suppose Apple could imporve its version of X11 so that it is better included in the system, but then that would possibly break things on the X11 side where people don't expect such modifications. I don't know. But the fact is _any_ application depending on X11 on _any_ platform will need extra input systems since X11 is not designed to provide those. It is only a windowing environment.
I also hope that the OOo port people who are doing the Mac version solve my problem with opening files on the Samba server so I can move to OOo 2 on the Mac.
I hope so too. I have had a few issues with 2.0RC3 on the mac so I had to shift to a beta (.138) and I don't even remember where I got it from... But it may be that if you get the most (really) beta thing your issue will have been fixed. Maybe sending a mail to the porting list to see where is the latest OSX beta is could help.
At any rate, we live in an interesting world with many OOo/ NeoOffice/J choices for use on our Macs.
I certainly agree with you :) Jean-Christophe Helary --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
