We're all answering questions in our leisure time - no one of us gets any money from OpenOffice, so, please be polite - otherwise no one will answer you. You can still open your documents with Word, when you're opening them from Word, don't you? When you want to open your documents with a double click in the explorer, make a right click on a document, choose "open with" and mark "always open with this program". (The wording might differ, because I don't have Windows here, and even when I'm using Windows, I have a German version. I hope, this helps you.
