CP, you didn't read her question with much care - she already
acknowledged that she knew how to pop the ruler into view,
but I think what she's after (not being an MSWord user I can't
say for certain) is a tiny dialog containing a live readout
of the current cursor position - in inches or metric.

I can see that as being very useful - can Writer do it?

I'm copying you, Annie, as I don't know whether you're
subscribed to this list.

BTW a "curser" is someone who swears - on computer screens
it's spelled "cursor".
