Thanks for everyone's help. I will use datapilot. I have payroll records by employee. There is one record per pay period, and one record for each quarter for each employee. I did not want to sort the table since I wanted everything to happen automatically without macros. The datapilot gives me a table on another sheet with all of the totals and I can then use these totals for a summary on another sheet. I still have to tell datapilot to recompute when I make a change to the data.
