Just wanted to take a minute to tell you how truely horrible OpenOffice is.
I am running Debian Linux, not by choice, but because my office requires it.
I attempted to apt-get the new OpenOffice but it wanted me to updated my kernel
which isn't broken.. so no, I will not update it.
I then downloaded OpenOffice from the website and it was a tarred up file that
contained 25+ .rpm files and not a single readme to tell me how to install it.
I have no clue what to do with these rpm files.
This is the epitomy of why Linux will never EVER EVER be used by the average
person. I was completely fooled into thinking your software would help bridge
the gap, it only made it much worse. 25 rpm files, what a joke.
Having fought with mandrake and debian installs I would agree that OO.o
is not really aimed at easy install on some flavours of Linux, most
people that can install debian in an office situation would not be
normal end users.
So this is not an OOo issue it is a Linux OOo issue
I have 3 suggestions
If you are a user of your office computer should you not get you systems
admin to do the installation on debian. Most companies that are sensible
enough to use linux for security reasons would not allow end users to
install programmes anyway?
If you find debian difficult try ubuntu which is aimed at end users, is
90% debian based and the breezy badger release comes pre-installed with
openoffice 2 (1.1.97). Check out the live cd and see if you office admin
will move some of the desktops to ubuntu?
Change occupation?
