If yes, then your friend need OpenOffice.org or KOffice or Abiword for reading it. Microsoft programs can't handle the files in the opendocument-format. But when you safe the file, you can choose a .doc or .rtf-format. In this case, your friend don't need to download OpenOffice.org. Hope, this helps.
