My first (and at least semi serious) suggestion is that you dump windows, Install linux and avoid "sudden reboots". My second (and more serious) suggestion is that you take the time to name and save the file when you start working on it that way as you get into the project, one mouse click or hitting cntl-s will save the file for you. Third (and really serious) suggestion -- don't work for an hour without saving! You may also want to turn on the auto backup feature so that if you do save something you will have a couple of copies.

I think that you should make sure you understand the difference between auto recovery and auto backup -- auto recovery uses a "working" version of your file and writes it to disk at the specified interval, or if possible in the event of a system crash. I have looked for the recovery data on my computer and can't find it, (although I am sure that someone could point us to the info). Auto backup actually keeps the last version of the file that you saved intact as a recovery option (writes a file with a .bak extension),

If you crash while writing, when you reopen 2.0 you should get a data recovery screen that asks you if you want to recover any docs that were unsaved when Open Office closed -- If you never saved the document before closing I assume it will want to recover and "untitled" writer file.

If you are not confident that this is working, create a new document in 2.0, type a couple of lines (I don't think you even have to wait the 3 Mins), hit CNTL-ALT-DELETE go into task manager and end OpenOffice.org. Then relaunch the program and see if you are presented with the recovery console, if not I would double check your settings.

If that works as intended, I would guess that something happened during your unexpected reboot to prevent the recovery info from being saved.

I've had problems with 2.0.1 (but not with 1.x), in that even though I set the "autorecovery" at 3 minutes, OO simply doesn't Save my files unless I finally instruct it manually (CTRL-S) to do so. And if I forget . Yesterday, as I didn't realize that that was the case, a sudden reboot lost me an hour
or more of work.

I'm reduced to working with 1.1.15 as safety measure, but would love to move
back to 2.0.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
