Hi John,
Most likely, the problem with uninstalling is that the OOo
quickstarter was active. Check the system tray near the
clock. Next time you want to uninstall, if there's an OOo
icon there, right-click it and select 'exit'. If you have
other problems using the software, ask here. Many of us,
like you, struggle with doing things differently after
having used MSO for years
