Hi Kira,
On the find and replace dialogue, click the button 'More options', the check 'Regular Expressions'. If you press F1 at that point, help will open at 'Find and Replace' where there's a link to a list of regular expressions that should tell you how to do what you want.

I just realized that, despite trying to search Help in each new version, I still don't know how to do something I used to do all the time in MS Word. I often wind up with documents from other people that are formatted differently than I prefer to format them, so I want to be able to (for example) Find all instances of " " (several spaces) and Replace them with a tab character, or to Find all instances of a paragraph mark and Replace some of them with a new line character. How do I get at these formatting characters in the Find and Replace dialog box in Writer?

I'm using version 2.0.1 on Windows XP currently.
