Dear OpenOffice.org Rep:
My job has given me an old computer to have for home use, however, it
needs Windows 98 (which I haven't been able to locate at a reasonable
price). Our IS person directed me to your organization. Will you be
able to help me in any way?
Thank you.

We can't help you with Windows 98, unless someone wants to give you
their license.
You could ditch the Windows 98 and try out Linux though. It's freely (
and legally ) available over the internet, or you can get a copy from
your local PC store, off the magazine CD, etc. It will be a *lot* more
secure than running Windows 98, and you can also run OpenOffice on it :)
Win98SE was selling for $90 W/liscence last year at resale shops. Now
you can get an old Dell computer w/ 98SE loaded in it at resale shops
for $90. Street Legal!
Get 98SE if at all possible. Much better than 98.
Windows Office 97 Professional W/COA label goes for $20. Street Legal.
You can Download Open Office for MS Windows for free, or get the Open
Office disk for about $5. I don,t recommend their word processor, Open
Office Writer, as it is very slow, even on a new fast computer. Some of
the other stuff in the suite is pretty good. Try AbiWord for MS Windows.
It is not as full featured as OOWriter, but is much faster, and less
trouble.
I use Fedora Core 3, and will attest that Linux is very secure.
Linux is the future, however I feel that 98SE W/Office 97 Professional
is the best that Microsoft has put out for general purpose home or small
office. I really don't like using anything XP.
Check out the ads in Austin, Tx. Maybe they will ship.
