You will need to install Apple's X11 software to run Open Office, either do a custom install from the dvd that came with the machine or download X11 from Apple's web site (because you have to run Open Office under X, there will be many things that are confusing, like adding fonts, printing and saving files). So before you do any of that take a look at www.neooffice.org -- this is software based on open office, but made for the mac. It uses system printers and fonts and allows you to navigate through folders like any other application.

Thanks

Good afternoon,

I was told about Open Office last week. I am planning to buy an Ibook G4 (Mac OS X 10.4) and I am wondering: would the installer support that kind of computer ? If I write a document in Open Office and I forward it onto a computer that uses Microsoft Word, would it be able to read it ? I also understand that downloading your product is free of charge. Am I correct ?

Thanking you in advance for your time.

Best regards,

G. Bolduc
