Shooting in the dark, but:
Have you tried inserting a paragraph on an empty page and _then_
inserting the table? I think I've seen this same problem with graphics.
Also, I know how you anchor a graphic (to char, paragraph, or page)
makes a big difference, but I'm not sure if any of this applies to tables.
