Some good responces to your question, but I've found that the
gmane.comp.openoffice.questions interface is one that should be encouraged.
It automatically takes care of the subcrition issues, and the archieve issues
are handled nicely. This list is very active and might be unusable to people
who don't understand email filtering, and sorting to different email boxes.
