You missed a step: 1: Select the cells you want to include in the printout. If there are multiple non-contiguous ranges, select the first range. 2: Select Format>Print Ranges>Define. 3: Repeat for any additional ranges using Format>Print Ranges>Add in step 2. These ranges are saved with your document of course, so it's usually a one time operation.
