I had a similar problem trying to use kmail, and it seemed as if evolution
had made itself the default mail program when I installed it, even though
I'm running kde.
Try running
gnome-default-applications-properties
in a console, and set the mail reader to thunderbird.
Also, if you are running kde, try setting thunderbird as the default mail
application in Control Centre - KDE components - component chooser.
Interesting. I just tried switching from evolution to thunderbird and
back again in m154 and had no problem. So I have a question, are you
clicking the selection button to get the directory tree? Once there
simply scroll down until you find the application you need. No need to
change at system level at all.
Are you under KDE? Gnome? If either, what is the default e-mail
application set to for that desktop manager?
