Just to clarify -- If you check Format > Autoformat and uncheck the option While Typing, then no autoformatting will happen, including autocorrection (correcting "teh" to "the" for example), which many/most people think is a good thing. It also includes things like changing a double hyphen to an em dash, changing quotes to smart quotes, etc. What the OP wants to do is turn AutoCOMPLETE off.
