Deborah,

Open Office is indeed awesome. Depending on what you currently do in Publisher either Write or Draw may work for you. However, I don't believe Open Office is an exact replacement for Publisher. You'll have to play with it and see if it works for you, and if you run into problems or questions definately post them to this list.

Regarding the download. If you're using broadband (DSL or Cable) then it should download without problems. If you're using a dial-up connection, you may want to ask someone with a broadband connection to download it for you. If you don't have someone who can do that, there are links to download managers at http://download.openoffice.org/index.html. A download manager will help you not get a corrupted download.

One suggestion, if you have anti-virus or popup blocking software disable it during the install. Sometimes they'll conflict.

I hope OpenOffice works for you!

EITHER THERE'S A VIRUS, OR FAILED DOWNLOAD, IS WHAT THE POP UP SAYS.
I have a new computer, using Windows XP, Home Edition

with Hardware: AMD Sempron Processor
2800+

I really liked using Publisher, and my computer "guru" says this new open office is great, so could you help me download and use it successfully?
Thanks! Deborah
