First of all, OpenOffice has an exceptionally good and easy to use
built-in PDF export function that doesn't use or need Adobe Acrobat.
It's literally a two-click operation from the toolbar. So the answer is
an emphatic but qualified yes.

However, you may be using features in Adobe Acrobat that the OpenOffice
PDF exporter may not have. In that case you should be able to save your
documents from OpenOffice using the MS Word formats and then convert
them using Acrobat.

It really depends on your level of need.
