I would like to convert an existing MS Access MDB file into something
I can use with Base. Various archived messages suggest different
things, including some rather detailed instructions from last month
that seem to have no relation to the version I am running.
If you are using OOo2.0. you should be able to do this using the
Database Wizard.
To start the Wizard, click File > New > Database.
On the first page of the Wizard, choose "Connect to an existing
database" and choose "Microsoft Access" from the list (scroll up
in the list to see it).
On the next page of the Wizard, browse for the location of the
MSAccess file, then continue as instructed by the wizard.
I am running the 2.0 OS X build, which I just downloaded a few days
ago. But the database wizard has no option for Microsoft Access in
"Connect to an existing database." I tried to open it as an existing
database file and it seems to work until I attempt to look at the
tables. Then I get "The connection to the external data source could
not be established. An unknown error occurred. The driver is probably
defective."
Huh? I want to get this into some usable form so the database isn't
locked up on the one Windows user's laptop. All I have right now is
the database file itself.
Regards,
Andrea
