According to http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=LIT it's a

Reader eBook File

There is a note there that says:
"If you need to convert .LIT files to another format you can use the
command-line program Convert LIT and/or the GUI interface for that
program ConvertLIT GUI."

It looks like this software can be downloaded from
http://www.convertlit.com/
(Windows exe, source code for Linux BSD, there is also an executable Mac
OSX version as well via a different link)
