I'm not sure if the follow procedure could solve your problem with OOo 1.1.3.
In any case, using OOo 2.0.0, I assume Writer:

>From the menu bar, select Insert > Footer > Default 

and then 

Insert > Fields > Page Number

        Dear Sirs,

        I am using  version 1.1.3 of OpenOffice.   My problem is:

        I need to number the pages of a long document. 
        I go to Insert  and click on Page Numbers,  expecting all the pages of 
the document to receive a 
        number.   But I see only the first page  has got a number.

        How do I solve this problem ?
