In OOo 1.1.5 (and probably 2.x), when I open a document, it checks the styles and tells me if they don't match the current definitions. It then asks me if I want to update the styles in my document.

If I don't do this (and then save the document), it permanently breaks the links between these styles and my current styles. This usually scares me because I don't really know what I'm giving up.

The problem is that when it asks me this, I have no idea what will be changed. And, even after I say yes, I usually can't tell what changed.

What I would like is something like a "More Information" button, etc. that would detail for me exactly what's not the same so I can make an informed decision.

I have read several documents on styles and I use them for most things.

I suppose I should try saving such a file as a new name and running the Compare function between old and new. I haven't tried that yet.
