If OOo is creating a new file it means that it was unsuccessful in
attempting to repair the corrupted word file.

Wordpad is simply displaying the binary file contents (since it also
cannot repair the file).

It seems that this file may be a lost cause. In the past I've used OOo
to repair my colleagues word documents which have been screwed up with
word.. In this case I would suggest it is a lost cause - hope it
wasn't anything too important.
