Thank you for the prompt response to my question. However, the question
remains. I have tried the paste special function, but it just pastes in
the link again. Is there a way to make it paste in the current value
instead of the link? Thanks.

In Excel I could do this by selecting the cell in file A, copy it,
select paste special, and select value.
OOo also has "Edit" -> "Paste Special".
