As a temporary work-around, can you print as a normal 8 1/2" sheet (OOo & printer) and set a big left margin to move the printing into place? That's how I got my envelopes to work (using the labels wizard instead of the envelope stuff) before the "kit" existed. I have an HP Deskjet.

I tried that. The document is printed as 8 1/2 x 11 even when I set the
printer settings to No 10 Envelope. The shape of the document changes to
No. 10 envelope in OpenOffice, but does not print that way--even though the
printer settings dialogue is set to No 10 Envelope. The result is it always
prints on the empty space to the left of the envelope in the feeder. When I
try to get it to print by using 8 1/2 x 11 settings and just position the
labels on the right side, the printer refuses to print with the wrong paper
size setting.

Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. The problem I am having
is
that when I set the correct paper size in OpenOffice (via the printer
settings window), it adjusts the size of the document, but the image it
actually sends to the printer is still an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with the
envelope
on the wrong side. When I use the printer settings window in Word, the
image sent to the printer is the correct size for the envelope.
If that happened you forgot to set the paper size in the printer
settings dialogue. For most North American users the envelope size of
choice is #10. Try that.

Hi, I am having a problem printing envelope labels in OpenOffice. I
have an
HP Photosmart 7960 printer. Whenever I try to print an envelope,
the
printer prints on the wrong side of the page, which means that
nothing
actually prints when I use an envelope. This happens regardless of
which
side I tell OpenOffice to print to. I would be able to resolve this
problem
by printing on the right side of a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, but the printer
will
not accept jobs where the paper size does not match the size in the
tray.
THe documentation project offers a kit to help you set up your
printer.
See http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/index.html

Judging from the HP preview, the problem is that even when I set No.
10
envelope in the printer settings from OpenOffice, it is changing
them
back
to 8 1/2 x 11 when it sends the data to the printer driver. When I
compare
this with Microsoft Words envelope printing, the HP preview shows an
envelope sized page. How do I get OpenOffice to maintain the
envelope
size
setting in the printer output (not just in the OpenOffice window?
I suspect that when you try the kit you will discover the problem but
I
suspect that you are not setting the printer up correctly. The Printer
Settings button should be checked to ensure that both OOo and the
printer know what size of paper to use.

Please let me know if anyone has a solution.

Thanks,
Travis
