Small colored dots or arrows at the corners of the cells can mean
**At least in MSOffice**
Cell comments
Unlocked cells
Mis-spelled words

It usually means that something in the cell needs attention.  Or at
least it does in Microsoft office.
In office, you click on the dots to find out what is wrong.

Since I am not on a computer with OOo at the moment, and I have never
played with Calc that much, I cannot give further suggestions.

I'm going mad trying to find the reason for the little red blocks in the
