Andrew,
Thank you for your suggestion, but I need something that works
"normally", I know that it is possible to type any thing under X11,
just that it is not always easy.

The option key is a Mac thing and does not do any of the stuff you
would expect under X11 -- this may sound a little hokey, but if you
don't need to do this too often -- generate the characters in an
OSX app. and copy & paste if you are going to use these often you
could setup an auto correct that replaces for example (e) with é --
etc.
Good luck

Thanks for your link.
I have been checking where X11 gets its preferences on OSX and I
can't seem to find any XF86Config file anywhere on the system.
There is a xinitrc file though with:
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
but neither files are present currently.
Besides I am not really a Linux geek and I am not sure I
understand most of what is written in the document :) If you have
other ideas go ahead. I can try...

Well, the title says it all~
I use a qwerty kb to type French, English (and Japanese with
Kotoeri)
and I've decided to give OOo a serious try... (No comment about
NeoOffice, I know it and use it everyday).
My first problem is character input: I can't use the opt+
combinations with X11/OOo:
opt+e+e=é
opt+_+a=à
etc.
I tried the 2 possible related X11 preferences with no success
and I
really have no idea how to deal with that.
Any suggestion ? Something _simple_ if possible :)
Hmm, your description appears to me to be using the "dead key"
method
of inserting characters. I use this method under Linux and it
should be similar
for OSX. See
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/various_topics/
Howto_special_char.pdf
for ideas on setting up your Mac. If you would be so kind, if this
works for you, to document any differences, I will add a Mac
section.
