Dan ... Fixed. JRE was always there, but get this ... I didn't notice that there's a little circle we're supposed to put in a dot, is all. I put the dot in the circle ... Good Gaw! One lil' dot and it all works, or not! Now I'm wondering how many other OO Users have had this. If it's only me, I am ecstatic at how stupid I am. Thanks!
It's not just you. I had that problem too. I'm just fairly persistent in trying to figure things out for myself, so I didn't write to the list about it. I had downloaded the version for Windows without JRE because I knew I had it and it was up-to-date, so I actually went into the proper option for setting it up in OOo, and saw that it showed up after a short while but not that I had to manually click on the radio button.
I guess it would have been more intuitive for me if it had been a checkbox instead of a radio button, because to me a radio button implies a choice of one item out of multiple items possible, but that's probably why it's used--it seems that you could have multiple JRE versions installed and need to pick one for OOo. I just happen to only have one.
