Subject: Calculator is meddling with my data?
Hi,
I have a spreadsheet with time-series data which i want to use in Stata.
That program does not like 10-02-06, but it needs to be written as
10feb2006. The most easy way to change the dates should be to use the
find and replace option.
That is where all the problems start. When i try to replace -12- with
dec (or -02- with feb) it only highlights the cells of the month,
without replacing them! When i select one month and try to replace the
month number with the abbreviation (with the selection only option),
then it does not find anything at all or does something strange! The
only way to replace something is by typing it all by yourself, but even
THAT is impossible since it automatically changes back.
How can i prevent Open office calculator (or ms office because it has
the same problem) to meddle with my data?!
Regards,
M.Eekhout

One thing you could try is to select and format the date cells under the
numbers tab. Just do a user-defined category and in the Format code box
type "DMMMYYYY" minus the quotes. That will give you the correct
formatting for the other program. Hope it helps.
