The installer does not create and clutter the desktop with lots of icons. You appear to be running some flavour of Windows. In which case the installer will have created an OOo (OpenOffice.org) group in your "Start" -> "Programs" menu. If you want icons on your desktop, find the OOo module (eg Writer) in that menu, right click on it and drag it to the desktop, then select "Copy" from the pop-up menu. After you have opened one of the OOo modules for the first time you will find the "Quickstarter" icon in the taskbar tray (close to the clock), you can right click this icon for a pop-up menu, from which you can start any of the OOo modules. FYI the default location for the exe files is: "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program" Hope this helps.
