Thanks for the link, and sorry about the delay in replying.
However, issue 21747 and the plethora of other issues related to it (I
have to admit I haven't followed all the links) specifically appears to
refer to files located on USB sticks.
In my experience the problem also occurs for files on my local hard
disk, i.e. once a file has been opened (and closed) with OOo under
Windows (2000), the (sub)directory in which the file is located cannot
be renamed/moved until the OOo Quickstarter is closed.
