It sounds like you might be sending them a file in OOo's native format,
odt. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not (and at this time will not)
support that to import the file.
I suggest you save as a file your recipient can read (eg. PDF or MS Word
if they need to edit the file) and then send that as an attachment.
