Hi Rod,
I'm not really following this debate, but noticed something in your
post that I wanted to comment on. Relative styles ARE possible in
OpenOffice... they're just not intuitive. At all! Give me a yell if
you're wanting/trying to set them up.
I'm curious at least. Can you set up a character style that will, for
instance, apply italic formatting, over the top of a section of text
that is composed of mixed fonts or point sizes without changing the
underlying fonts or sizes? I know about hierarchal styles if that's
what you're referring to.
My understanding is that the format of a single character is
determined by:
1. The font settings of the underlying paragraph style.
2. Possibly modified by exactly one character style.
3. Possibly modified by the direct formatting in a non-structured manner.
What I would love is a character style that only specifies italic so
that when applied to TNR 12 point results in italic TNR 12-point, and
when applied to Arial Bold 10-point results in italic Arial Bold
10-point, etc.
Hi Rod,
Create a character style, making only one selection - eg. change font
from Regular to Italic. Click on OK to save it. You'll find that the
default settings are disregarded, and only the setting you changed (ie,
italic) is applied to the text.
Does that work the way you hoped?
