There is no way to visualize a style change done to a "space"
within a document. I know a change has taken place but I don't
know where. This is obvious with RC's.
And is as obvious using OOo, s currently implemented, and without
using the RC Macro.
OTOH, one does have to : a) Know how styles in OOo are implemented;
b) Pay attention to the document that one is working on;
Please tell me how as I have been through everything and I cannot find
any way to show me within my text where formatting changes. I looked
through the styles pdf from OOo web site and I cannot find out how to
do this.
Robin,
You're still laboring under a big misconception that's the result of
working with and knowing how Wordperfect works for a long time. Writer
is different. I know this because the example you always bring up -- the
bit about a style change applied to a character -- doesn't make any sense.
The only thing that a style change to a character can change is *that*
*character*. That's it. Nothing else. It won't change the formatting of
other text in the paragraph. It won't change -- it *can't* change
paragraph level formatting like indentation, alignment, text flow,
numbering, line spacing, etc. It *can't* change Page level formatting
like margins, headers, footers, etc.
At worst, a style change to a single character like a space *might* be
visible as a somewhat smaller or larger spacing between those two words
or if the point size is changed radically enough (bigger) you may get
increased vertical spacing between the line containing the space and the
line above.
Formatting and styles in Writer don't have that linear, almost temporal,
aspect that it has in Wordperfect. The cause of a mis-formatted
paragraph *has to be* right there. It's not going to be hidden between
characters three pages back. Either *that* paragraph has a different
(wrong) style applied to it or it has other formatting applied directly.
Either condition is butt-simple to diagnose and fix.
