At http://portableapps.com there are a number of applications that run
from portable drives. I have been using the software from this for
quite a while now and it is excellent for those with multiple computers
or some one who travels a lot.
The software at this site is the standard product with a "wrapper" that
allows it to be portable. i.e. Doesn't write back to the host computer.
Since it is standard product there is no need for special support and it
is possible to update when a new version comes out.
Take care as if you try to run from USB 1.1 it will be slow and you will
be disappointed. Running from a "thumb drive" is slower that from a USB
hard drive.
Everything you need is at that site. It is currently a little dated but
they are about to release an set of updates.
Have fun,

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't actually installed it yet, so am
not truly familiar with it.
