The OOo (OpenOffice.org) component you are referring to is called "Impress", which is NOT a Powerpoint "clone". However, it can read and write files in Microsoft's closed ppt format. If you have some knowledge of how to use Powerpoint, it should not be difficult for you to adapt to Impress.
