[users] Windows 98

I am using Windows 98   When I try to open OpenOffice 2.0 text files I get the 
following messages
  
  1.  An API call exited abnormally   or   2. The page can not be found. 
  
  I know the page exists.
  
  Please give some suggestions on solving the problem
