I must have something turned off (but I can't find how to enable it),

design mode, etc, icons, that was there before opening the Data
Sources pane.
I've had this problem also. Once I saw en netry in the UI to hide it.
Never found that place afterwards :-/
With a little help from this list I found the config-file:
If you go to
Application Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\
..registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\UI
and open the file DbBrowserWindowState.xcu
(in a text-editer)
with a property visible that has to be set to true.

That was it! Thanks for the help. Good thing this newsgroup/list exists
since "normal" application based help is sorely lacking in many areas
and (for me) is basically unresponsive and unintuitive! Nonetheless, I
do appreciate all the effort that has gone into making OOo a great product.
