### simply indicates that the column is too narrow to show all the result.  If you widen the column enough the ### will change to the actual display of the cell.

Crystal, now I can't reproduce the ### so I don't know what I was doing wrong on Friday (tired, I guess), but I finally got it. Here's the complete formula for anyone interested, where B is the later time, A is the earlier:

=((B2<A2)+B2-A2)*24
and format the cell as Number>Decimal.

The default of the time difference function is, eg, 1:30. If I change that to number, I get ###.

I'm using ver 2.0.2 and need to get the difference between two times converted into a decimal, not a time format, ie, I want an hour and a half expressed not as 1:30, but as 1.50.  Can't figure this out.

Dick:

In Calc, which I am assuming you are doing this in, what is the number format of the cell? Is it date or number? This might make the difference.
