Usually programs are not installed in Linux like in Windows. The usual
windows routine of going to the vendor site, downloading, and installing
is not used.

Linux distros usually use something called package managers. I don't
know what kind of package manager Knoppix uses. As it is Debian based
I'll bet for apt, but I'm not sure. You should probably look for help on
Knoppix forums.

BTW, Knoppix is the best LiveCD that I know. I use it daily to repair
broken boxes, but I don't feel that it's the best solution for a novice
Linux install, probably distros like Mandriva, Ubuntu, Mepis... are
better suited.

Javier.
