Modal windows, no clear distinction of inherited/overridden parameters, cross-linking between documents overly complicated, context dependent menus changing the document view - just a few examples of rather bad UI practice and there are many more. OOo/SO faithfully copies them all.
A decision should be made if OOo/SO wants to be a good Office clone or a good office package. Although it is possible that at 2.x.y this decision is already inherent in the many hundreds of megabytes of code that should be redesigned and re-written if OOo/SO was to leave the copy Microsoft path.
